Young Leaders Disciple the Next Generation in Uganda

Our team in Uganda has known Ruth and Jossy for nearly ten years.

Their stories are similar to many of the children we serve today.

At a young age, both Ruth and Jossy lost their fathers and were left with only their mothers to take care of them. Because it is difficult for women without an education to find work in Uganda, their mothers struggled to provide, and they couldn’t afford to send them to school.

Thankfully, through the support of sponsors, Ruth and Jossy were miraculously able to complete high school. They attended college where Ruth studied business management and Jossy studied nursing. Now, Ruth and Jossy are continuing education students working with Lifesong.

While they could have pursued careers elsewhere,

they chose to return to our team in Uganda to give orphaned and vulnerable children a vision for the good plans God has for their lives.

Ruth shared—

“I came back to work and serve with the ministry because of the love God showed me when I was a child. I wanted to share that same love with the kids in our program.”

At Lifesong, we stand by a four-part pledge to the children we serve. The first part of the pledge affirms our commitment to teach orphaned and vulnerable children the Gospel and how to live as a follower of Jesus Christ.

“Our Children” Will:

Be taught the Gospel and how to live as a follower of Jesus Christ

Not want for food, clothing, medical care, or shelter

Receive a quality education to provide a foundation for their future

Experience continued love and support while transitioning into adult living

As an accountant and a school nurse,

Ruth and Jossy have opportunities every day to disciple children in need of Gospel hope. They both lead nightly devotions, build relationships, and share their testimonies about what God has done in their lives.

Michelle, a ministry leader in Uganda said—

“Having young adults investing in children that are going through the same things they went through has a huge impact. They share their experiences and give Godly guidance when needed.”

Ruth adds—

“Discipleship nurtured me spiritually and showed me what God’s love really looks like. It taught me how I can show God’s love to others and how I can help others come to Christ.”

Because Ruth and Jossy were discipled by people who cared for them, they are now equipped to disciple the next generation with compassion and determination.
