Lifesong Moldova Is Protecting Youth from Exploitation

For over 12 years, our new teammates in Moldova have faithfully served at-risk youth—especially teenagers transitioning out of residential care.
Moldova is one of the poorest countries in Europe, with widespread economic instability, high emigration rates, and limited job opportunities in rural areas. These challenges deeply impact children and families, increasing the risk of human trafficking and institutionalization.
It is estimated that over 3,000 children live in residential institutions across Moldova. However, thousands more are considered “social orphans”—children with living parents who cannot or do not care for them. As of July 2024, authorities in Moldova identified approximately 68,000 children in at-risk situations.
Alina and Ion, ministry leaders in Moldova share—
“Our dream is to build communities around vulnerable kids and adolescents where they are safe, seen, loved, and taken care of so that one day, they can give back to the community.”
Our aim is to protect vulnerable children from exploitation, including human-trafficking
by addressing root causes like poverty, lack of education, and absence of family support. Through Christ-centered care, practical support, mentorship, and vocational training, they’ve walked with over 75 young people as they step into adulthood with hope and purpose.
Today, Alina and Ion are raising a houseful of children in a loving home, leading a growing local church, and equipping those who work with vulnerable children through trauma-informed care and discipleship.
They’ve also launched a thriving coffee shop,
providing jobs and valuable life skills for the past three years to young adults in their community. Orphanage graduates and vulnerable youth can gain essential job skills, confidence, and a supportive community, helping them transition successfully into adulthood.

“When I started working at the coffee shop, I was afraid I couldn’t do anything right. But here, I’ve learned not just how to make great coffee, but how to believe in myself. I feel like I have a family now.”
Orphaned and vulnerable young adults like Victoria are experiencing the hope and love of Christ as they step into their futures. As an official Lifesong ministry, our Moldova team will continue this transformative work.
