A Support System for Maisha Made All the Difference

God is doing many marvelous things in Uganda! Land is being cleared in preparation for the construction of a new church building, and construction of our alumni house is currently underway. When the alumni house is finished, it will serve as a place for alumni to stay during their “gap year” when they are waiting for test results to see if they qualify for university.
As always, don’t forget to check out the encouraging story and prayer requests below.
—Uganda Team
Maisha* was a different person when she arrived at our ministry in Uganda.
Even in 2nd grade, she was known to cause trouble in the classroom. She was disruptive, sassy, and set in her ways.
But when our team went to visit her home, they learned that her grandmother, her caregiver, was struggling with mental illness. This made it difficult for her to provide the care Maisha needed. Maisha’s behavior at school was reflective of unmet needs at home, where she was often left to fend for herself.
When Maisha moved into our boarding school,
the matrons took wonderful care of her. With great depth of experience in caring for children with trauma, they provided the love, stability, and support that Maisha needed from her family. Maisha’s new support system helped her grow in her faith, learn how to relate well with others, and develop her character.
Our team stands by a four-part pledge to the children we serve. The first part of the pledge affirms our commitment to teach orphaned and vulnerable children the Gospel and how to live as a follower of Jesus Christ.
Now, after spending three years in the boarding school,
Maisha has grown and changed.
A ministry leader shares—
“Maisha is helpful, hilarious, hard-working in school, and recently decided to be baptized. We’re so thankful for Godly matrons who exhibited love and patience to her.”

A few weeks ago, Maisha also won an “election” in school, voted upon by her classmates. She is well-liked by many.
Seeing Maisha’s face shine with joy is an amazing testimony of what Jesus continues to do in her life through a family-like support system that provides stability, love, and discipleship so she can continue to flourish.
