Education Preserves Families in Liberia
Anita began caring for her two grandchildren after her daughter left.
With no resources, she struggled daily to provide food, shelter, and education. Determined to give them a better future, Anita worked tirelessly, doing odd jobs for her neighbors to make ends meet.
Though she did everything she could, Anita knew no matter how hard she worked, she couldn’t secure the education her grandchildren needed for a better future.
In Liberia, most schools are private, requiring families to pay for education.
For people like Anita, who live on $1 or $2 a day, even minimal tuition is an insurmountable barrier. Tuition is the number one obstacle to education in Liberia.
So when our team invited Anita’s grandchildren to attend Lifesong School, everything changed. They received all the necessary learning materials, quality instruction, medical care, daily meals, and Gospel-centered mentorship—at no cost to them.
Over 450 orphaned and vulnerable children in Liberia now receive two nutritious meals every day as part of our program. And in addition to meeting nutritional needs, our school in Liberia performed second-best on national exams in their district, a reflection of how holistic care can help children succeed.
The school principal shares—
“In addition to qualified teachers and school supplies, our students continue to perform extremely well due to the support they receive through the feeding program, which enables them to have breakfast and lunch.”
This year, 22 students graduated and will have the opportunity to continue their education in our vocational training program.
At Lifesong, we stand by a 4-part pledge to the children we serve. The fourth part of the pledge affirms our commitment to providing orphaned young adults with continued love and support as they transition into adult living.
Because people like you give, Anita’s grandchildren and many others have opportunities to learn, grow, and pursue a brighter future, without the crushing burden of school fees.
This gives loving family members like Anita hope.
“I tell God, ‘Thank you, thank you, thank you.’ He sent Lifesong to me for my grandchildren.”
Anita’s gratitude is deep, knowing that education has helped her family stay together and opened doors for her grandchildren to a bright future.
