Dignified Jobs Preserve Families in Haiti
Fatherless children in Haiti are highly vulnerable.
When men are unable to find work, they often leave their families due to shame. Lifesong and Welcome Home Haiti partner to help families stay together by empowering over 125 men and women with jobs. Employees receive discipleship and living wages, four times above the average pay. They build four houses per month for vulnerable Haitian families and have completed nearly 300 homes since 2010.
Through the years, lives have been transformed through our team at Welcome Home Haiti. Today, we celebrate four of the men they served as children who are now thriving as adults.
At Lifesong, we stand by a 4-part pledge to the children we serve. The fourth part of the pledge affirms our commitment to providing orphaned young adults with continued love and support as they transition into adult living.
Roudelin’s Story
Roudelin lost both of his parents when he was 11 years old. When he was old enough to work, he learned from employees at Welcome Home Haiti. He acquired skills in carpentry, installed windows and doors, and attended trade school to learn how to lay ceramic tiles.
Today, Roudelin has been promoted from working on the roofing crew to a security guard. He, his wife, and their 2-year-old daughter are blessed with a safe and secure Welcome Home Haiti-built house. Roudelin shares—
“My entire life has changed because of Welcome Home Haiti. I don’t know how I’d eat or where I’d be living without the chance to have a good job, and I wouldn’t be able to have a wife and children without a way to support them. I can’t even describe the help they’ve been in my life and in the lives of so many others in this community.”
Alex’s Story
Alex and his family were one of the first to receive a Welcome Home Haiti-built home in 2010. Before their home was built, he lived together with six others and his aunt in a small, wooden shack.
Over the years, Alex grew into his role with Welcome Home Haiti. Today, he leads the landscape crew and cares for the property when our team is out of the country.
He attends English school in the city so that he can communicate with American partners.
Peterson’s Story
Growing up without a father figure, Peterson lacked guidance and discipline. He was full of energy and often got himself into trouble.
Then, he started volunteering with Welcome Home Haiti. Today, Peterson is one of two employees who operate the block machine.
Peterson is also a caring husband and a father to three beautiful children. Our team is delighted to see him regularly prioritize his family.
Wisly’s Story
Since Wisly was 5 years old, he wanted to become a pastor. He grew up attending church and singing in the church choir.
Today, Wisly attends university and leads evangelism projects in the community. He shares—
“I wouldn’t be where I am without the support of Welcome Home Haiti. They have always been an example of how to love God and love my people. It’s my goal to do the same thing.”
