Orphans in Ukraine Learn Victory Is in Christ
Summer camps are likely the last thing to come to mind when thinking of kids during the war in Ukraine.
But for the orphaned and vulnerable children we serve, Christian summer camps provide hope, fun, education, and community, even during the war.
At Lifesong, we stand by a 4-part pledge to the children we serve. The third part of the pledge affirms our commitment to providing quality education to orphaned and vulnerable children to provide a foundation for their future. While children are on break from school, summer camps are one way they can keep learning.
Our teams in Ukraine and Poland organized over a dozen Christian camps this summer, reaching hundreds of kids.
See a sneak peek of the impact summer camps are having on vulnerable kids today—
Some of the camps this summer were based on 1 John 5:4: “For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.”
A staff member explains—
“Through these camps, our team is committed to teaching the children that there is another way: the way of victory.”
Children learn and practice relying on their faith in Jesus for victory over sin and sorrow. They set goals for the week, like overcoming bad habits, becoming more proactive, building self-discipline, avoiding inappropriate language, and practicing gratitude.
One of the reasons camps are so impactful is the intentionality of mentors who support the children while they are there.
Nastya, a Lifesong graduate and camp mentor shares—
“One day, volunteers from Lifesong helped me choose the right path. Now, I am happy to serve children and, by the example of my life, lead them to Christ.”
As children wrestle through the more challenging aspects of their stories in a supportive, hope-filled environment, they begin to build meaningful relationships with peers and their mentors who help them know they are seen, known, and loved by God.
Our team teaches orphaned and vulnerable children tangible skills too, like cooking, sports, and art. Children also participate in activities to help them develop teamwork and communication skills.
Olya, a camp participant shares—
“Now I know Jesus wants to save me and my family. Thank you to the entire Lifesong team for an amazing time at camp.”
