More Than Physical Needs Are Being Met in Uganda

In Uganda, Gospel-centered holistic care is changing lives.

Our team supplies orphaned and vulnerable children with food, safe water, safe homes, medical care, and clothing that not only improves their physical quality of life but helps them begin to understand God’s love for them.

At Lifesong, we stand by a 4-part pledge to the children we serve. The second part of the pledge affirms our commitment to providing holistic care to orphaned and vulnerable children so they don’t lack food, clothing, medical care, and shelter.

“Our Children” Will:

Be taught the Gospel and how to live as a follower of Jesus Christ

Not want for food, clothing, medical care, or shelter

Receive a quality education to provide a foundation for their future

Experience continued love and support while transitioning into adult living

Nutritious & Delicious

Currently, our team at Global Hands of Hope in Uganda provides four nutritious, well-balanced meals each day, including one snack. Meals are prepared on campus by trained cooks. Before coming to Lifesong, many of the children we serve regularly received just one meal per day.

At school, students and staff eat together. This is a wonderful time for children to socialize and continue learning from Christian mentors.

No More Walks to Water

Our team has access to three boreholes, one well, and 24 storage tanks for safe water. Children are able to stay hydrated because there is an abundant supply for everyone. Many of the children we serve celebrate not having to walk long distances to find safe water anymore. A high school student we serve named Milcah shares—

“Clean water has been helpful for drinking, preparing the meals we eat, doing laundry in the safe homes, and mopping the dormitory.”

A Place of Protection

Our team provides safe homes for the most vulnerable children. We currently have two homes for boys and two homes for girls. Each safe home is overseen by a safe home mother, a trained social worker who is a constant support to the children. Safe home mothers look after the children’s physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual health, providing one-on-one counseling sessions as needed.

Children also receive beds, bedding, and mosquito nets to help them sleep peacefully and safely. Ahmed, a 7th-grade boy we serve shares—

“I thank God that I am here. I used to sleep on mats and animal skins. When I came here, I started sleeping on beds with bed sheets and blankets.”

Medical Care for Every Child

Doctors and nurses provide ongoing medical care to the children who live in safe homes. There is also a clinic at the school that provides care for approximately 550 students and 80 staff. Each day, the clinic sees between 20 and 30 patients, treating common ailments, such as minor injuries, fevers, and respiratory illnesses. Our team also keeps the school clean to help prevent the spread of disease, and teachers teach children about their health.

Clothes for School & Play

As our team provides children with clothing and shoes for various activities, they watch as priceless smiles spread across the children’s faces. Children receive clothes for playing, a school uniform, and clothes for sports.

Many children have been impacted by these physical blessings, but the impact goes deeper. As children receive care, they see a small glimpse of the things God is doing in their lives to protect and direct their paths.

  • Praise God for safe home mothers who care for physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual needs of orphaned and vulnerable children day and night.
  • Pray for orphaned and vulnerable children to have good conversations with their teachers and mentors during lunch so they can learn more about Jesus.
  • Pray that more children in Uganda would be transformed by the Gospel.
  • Pray for staff members to remain energized in their walk with God.
