Empowering Teenage Mothers in Zambia to Be Who God Created Them to Be

Below, our teammates in Zambia share what holistic care for vulnerable, young mothers and their babies can look like—

Imagine nine babies under one year old in one place. Then, add nine teenage mothers.

Life is full for our team at Kharis House. Day and night, we care for vulnerable, young mothers and their babies. Recently, in just two days, two babies were born!

As new mothers come to our campus, we help them acclimate to nutritious meals, safe homes, running water, electricity, and caring mentors who are always present. These are luxuries many of them did not have before coming to Kharis House.

Most of the girls in our care were eating just one meal per day prior to arriving.

With the help of a nutritionist, we provide them with nutritious meals, vital for pregnant mothers and developing babies.

Our homes are safe.

They are protected by security cameras, guards, and our amazing house mentors. House mentors are always present and provide young mothers—most of whom have experienced trauma, abuse, and unsafe living conditions—with the love and care they need to heal.

In a culture where pregnant teenagers are dismissed and overlooked, our team sees them, loves them, and meets them in tangible ways that represent the love of Christ.

One way our team can provide even better care is through investing in reliable transportation. We plan to purchase a small bus this summer which will enable us to transport young mothers and their babies to church, school, and medical appointments and to haul large loads of groceries and other essential supplies to our campus.

Will you give today to help fund the purchase of a small bus so young mothers and their babies can receive the best care possible?

Babies we serve enjoy a nutritious snack.

The young mothers we serve know they can rely on our team.

There will always be food to eat. They will have a safe place to sleep. And there will always people who mentor, teach, and show them God’s love.

At Lifesong, we stand by a 4-part pledge to the children we serve. The second part of the pledge affirms our commitment to providing holistic care to orphaned and vulnerable children so they don’t lack food, clothing, medical care, and shelter.

“Our Children” Will:

Be taught the Gospel and how to live as a follower of Jesus Christ

Not want for food, clothing, medical care, or shelter

Receive a quality education to provide a foundation for their future

Experience continued love and support while transitioning into adult living

As a Kharis House ministry leader shares—

As we equip young mothers and their babies with holistic care, they are empowered to say yes to all God created them to be.
