Chen Persisted in Faith So She Could Go to School | An Update from Cambodia

Chen loves the Biblical account of Noah and the ark.

What she loves about it most is that not only did Noah have great faith, but he acted on it too.

Growing up in Cambodia, Chen endured a difficult childhood. Her family lived in poverty and didn’t have the resources they needed to provide for her. As stresses in the family grew, her parents divorced, leaving Chen in an unstable environment with a broken family.

At that time, Chen began to feel like no one loved her. She was even more discouraged because her family couldn’t send her to school.

But like Noah, she persisted in faith.

Later, when she started to receive Gospel-centered holistic care from our team, she attended school freely and without hinderance. Now, she hopes to become a teacher.

Most importantly, Chen has experienced the love of Christ.

Her parents’ divorce no longer has power to dictate her worth and value. And despite the challenges she has faced in her past, since coming to Lifesong, she knows she is seen, known, and loved, both by God and by those who daily disciple her.

Our team stands by a four-part pledge to the children we serve. The first part of the pledge affirms our commitment to teach orphaned and vulnerable children the Gospel and how to live as a follower of Jesus Christ.

“Our Children” Will:

Be taught the Gospel and how to live as a follower of Jesus Christ

Not want for food, clothing, medical care, or shelter

Receive a quality education to provide a foundation for their future

Experience continued love and support while transitioning into adult living

Chen says—

“Life without Jesus is nothing. It is important to know and serve God and bring others to know Him.

With our team, Chen and other orphaned and vulnerable children have the opportunity to participate in outreach where they are learning to serve other children in need too. As they accept the truth of the Gospel, it transforms the way they treat themselves and others.

As Pastor Vino from our team in Thailand shares—

“We strive to display God’s love and grace. The children we serve are not only looking for a physical path but are also seeking a way to develop intimacy with God through a spiritual journey. They develop a relationship with God and hopes and aspirations in life.
