A Place to Sleep for Adaline | An Update from Haiti

Below, our team in Haiti shares what discipleship can look like when followers of Jesus come face-to-face with a vulnerable young mother and her baby.

Over the years,

Welcome Home Haiti employees have participated in hundreds of morning devotions and weekly Bible studies. They have been poured into, prayed over, and pointed to Jesus. Now, they are leading a community outreach program, putting their faith into action.

Meet Adaline,* a pregnant teenager with nowhere to sleep.

By the grace of God, she crossed paths with Dhym, a member of the outreach committee and a faithful husband and father with a heart for service.

Seeing Adaline’s need, Dyhm provided her with a place to sleep on his porch until he was able to share her situation with others. The outreach committee built her a bed and purchased a mattress. They sang and prayed, investing in her life and loving her like Jesus.

But that visit wasn’t the end of their relationship.

A few months later, Adaline delivered her son. There were complications, and he was struggling to breathe. Without medical attention, he would die, but she had no money.

So once again, the outreach committee stepped in and asked if they could pay her hospital bill. Getting the care he needed saved his life.

In Adaline’s words—

I didn’t understand why they cared for me like they did. Now, I know the importance of following Jesus. I am thankful God put them in my life.”

Our team stands by a four-part pledge to the children we serve. The first part of the pledge affirms our commitment to teach orphaned and vulnerable children the Gospel and how to live as a follower of Jesus Christ.

“Our Children” Will:

Be taught the Gospel and how to live as a follower of Jesus Christ

Not want for food, clothing, medical care, or shelter

Receive a quality education to provide a foundation for their future

Experience continued love and support while transitioning into adult living

Dhym and the outreach committee continue to visit Adaline and maintain a relationship. Because they understand they are seen, known, and loved by God, they are empowered to love their neighbor as themselves.
