Healing for Andrea and Her Baby | An Update from Guatemala

When our team in Guatemala met Andrea*, she was 12 years old, scared, and pregnant.

Andrea had spent a year of her life being sold to neighbors to help make ends meet at home.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, “Children in Guatemala are subjected to the worst forms of child labor, including commercial sexual exploitation, sometimes as a result of human trafficking.”

Andrea’s first week with our team was filled with support, therapy, and learning basic skills. After a few days, the contractions began.

Our teammates rushed her to the hospital where Andrea gave birth to a tiny 3-pound baby girl.

For weeks, Andrea visited her daughter in the NICU, and over time, she began to better understand how deeply God loves and cares for them both.

Though people from her past failed her terribly, God never did, and He never will.

Two years after meeting our team, Andrea followed Christ and chose to be baptized while her daughter watched.

Her healing journey hasn’t been easy, but she knows she is seen, known, and loved by the God Who heals.
