Students Put Vocational Skills to the Test

Every year, our team in Uganda is visited by a group of medical professionals.

They provide thorough medical exams so the children we serve and members of the community receive the care they need.

In addition to doctors and nurses, this group includes student volunteers from our campus. As our continuing education students work alongside professionals, they gain valuable experience, running labs, checking on patients, and sharing the Gospel with all who come to receive care.

This year, Bridget and Noah are two of ten volunteers.

Bridget is in her last term of medical school training, while Noah has already graduated and is opening his own painting business. Noah has run the lab in the past, so he returned this year to help train others.

At Lifesong, we stand by a 4-part pledge to the children we serve. The fourth part of the pledge affirms our commitment to providing orphaned young adults with continued love and support as they transition into adult living.

“Our Children” Will:

Be taught the Gospel and how to live as a follower of Jesus Christ

Not want for food, clothing, medical care, or shelter

Receive a quality education to provide a foundation for their future

Experience continued love and support while transitioning into adult living

Jossy is also helping run the medical camp.

In her words—

“The continuing education program opened many doors to a bright future.”

After graduating from her continuing education program, Jossy became the school nurse and a matron, caring for and living with a group of girls in our boarding school. She is also a licensed midwife.

But this year, Jossy assumed more responsibilities, now providing regular care and medication to community members with high blood pressure. They come by her office for a checkup once per month.

Jossy delights in what she does. She shares—

“Going back to serve in the ministry has helped me strengthen my relationship with God. It has also allowed me to share Christ’s love with the children.”

As the ministry continues to grow, our team hopes to offer even more life skills training to help continuing education students navigate adult living.
