What Students Are Saying About the High School Site in Uganda

Your kindness is building more than the walls of our new high school in Uganda; it’s building courage, confidence, and vision in the hearts of orphaned and vulnerable young people.

The children we serve have big dreams that will impact many people. So we are thankful for the education, mentorship, and Gospel-centered, holistic care they will continue to receive to help their dreams become a reality.

Thank you for making a difference in their lives. This is just the beginning of something extraordinary.

A high school is being built in Uganda.

And as the school is taking shape so are the dreams and aspirations of the orphaned and vulnerable children we serve.

Recently, four students visited the construction site. They imagined science experiments, computer lessons, quiet moments with books, hands-on learning, and bigger, more comfortable classrooms.

They shared their thoughts, recorded below—

Simeo, an Aspiring Surgeon

Simeo is fascinated by biology and wants to become a surgeon.

“I have always wondered about how the body works. It is complex! How do doctors fix it when things go wrong? That is why I am so happy about the new science lab. I imagine wearing a lab coat, using real tools, and doing real experiments.”

It makes me feel like I am already on my way to becoming a surgeon, and I can’t wait.

Ratifah, an Aspiring Technologist

Ratifah shares her passion for technology and how it is changing the world.

“Most people think I should become a midwife or maybe a social worker, because they say that’s what girls are good at. But every time I use technology, I feel something different.

I see how computers are changing the world and how people build apps to solve problems and connect across the globe.

I’m not afraid to prove that I am smart. I have already tried learning simple apps on my own, even with just a small phone and slow internet. But it’s hard without proper tools.

That’s why I’m so excited about the computer lab where I will have access to real computers, stronger internet, and a space where I can sit, focus, and explore coding, design and how software works. I want to discover everything about technology and be part of the future it is building.”

Joshua, an Aspiring Writer

Joshua dreams of being a traveling journalist and writing a book someday.

“Books help me imagine things I have never seen. I read all kinds of stories, history, and even old newspapers I find.

When I heard there will be a big library, I felt so happy. It means I will have a place to sit and read in peace and quietness, a way to learn about more than what is in the classroom.

I want to be a journalist and travel around the world, and maybe write books myself one day, to have an impact. The new library will help me get there for sure. I thank God for His goodness and grace.”

Nusurah, an Aspiring Architect

Nusurah wants to design structurally sound buildings that help people.

“I enjoy drawing buildings and thinking about how things are planned. I really like math too, especially when it helps explain how strong a building can be. One time, I read about the pyramids in Egypt and how they have lasted thousands of years, but they are still standing. I was really amazed!

That makes me ask myself, can we build something here in Uganda so strong that can last for generations?

When I visited the school site, I kept looking at how everything was being measured and placed. It made me think that one day, I want to design buildings like this, buildings that help people and don’t fall apart. At school, I will learn geometry and about materials to do this. I feel like this is the beginning of something big for me.”

Every student carries a unique dream, and attending high school is an important step in their journey to achieving them. May they continue to grow into where God is calling them.
