The Gift of Yasil | An Update from Bolivia

Thank you for joining us in prayer this month for Yasil. Since she was a baby, she has been in our care. Together, we have weathered medical storms by her side. And many of you have given to help her through a kidney transplant.
Yasil spreads joy wherever she goes. Yet, it is hard to endure suffering, especially as a child struggling to understand why she doesn’t have the energy to play with her friends. Thank you for reading her story and for supporting orphaned and vulnerable children like her. We know God’s plans for her life are good.
—Bolivia Team
Though Yasil was born small and fragile,
her strength and resilience is mighty. At 5 months old, she endured her first of many surgeries, surgery on her brain.
Her father was quick to abandon her, unable to afford to care for a child with medical needs. So, at just 1 year and 5 months old, she was welcomed by our team in Bolivia, where she received the care and protection she needed. There, she had access to every medical intervention available and was deeply loved, not just by our team, but by people around the world who followed along on her journey.
Against all odds, Yasil clung fiercely to life.

At four years old, Yasil’s kidneys began to fail. Words like “hemodialysis,” “catheters,” “transplants,” and “biopsies” became part of her daily vocabulary.
When she turned 5 and received a kidney transplant, hope began to take root. She dreamed of playing without limits, learning without interruptions, and growing without hospitals.
But Yasil’s body rejected the new kidney. And once again, she was in the hospital, enduring more surgeries. At 9 years old, she had surgery on her legs. And at 11, she restarted kidney dialysis, both during the day and at night. While the world was asleep, Yasil continued to fight.
A ministry leader shares—
“Our ministry—Yasil’s home since her earliest steps—has become the heart that beats alongside hers.”
Through paperwork, procedures, solidarity, and campaigns, our team has joined together with faithful believers around the world to keep Yasil’s flame alive. A donation account was created, doors were knocked on, rejections were faced—and through it all, Yasil learned she isn’t alone and doesn’t need to fear abandonment.
It hasn’t been easy for Yasil to endure.
But her faith and understanding of God’s unconditional love has been strengthened.
As staff member shares—
“Yasil is not just a medical file. She is a girl with deep eyes and a shy smile who loves art and painting. A girl who, despite everything, continues going to school, continues dreaming, and continues trusting.”
At 12 years old, Yasil has endured more trials than many do in a lifetime. But most noteworthy isn’t what she has survived but what she has given along the way. In the midst of pain, Yasil has given smiles, paintings, dreams, and words of encouragement.
She shows our team and the other orphaned and vulnerable children we serve that resilience is not measured in physical strength but by the power of God’s Spirit at work within us. No machine or medicine is more powerful than the hope that is in Jesus.
