“It Stops With My Daughter” | Adriana’s Healing Story
When we come to the end of one year and start another, we can’t help but reflect on the goodness of God and all He has done through His body in Guatemala. The simple words, “thank you” seem so small compared to your generosity and dedication. We are so grateful for the impact you have made in the lives of children in Guatemala. As always, don’t forget to check out the encouraging story and prayer requests below.

It was a cloudy September afternoon
when the gates opened and Adriana* entered our campus in Guatemala for the first time.
Exhausted and worn out from the constant reminder of her brokenness, she clutched her stomach as the baby growing inside of her kicked. Her eyes darted left and right, searching for an escape. Adriana had been in an orphanage before, and just like last time, she planned to find a way out.
As the social worker led her through the front door, she was greeted with a warm and genuine smile, but she learned from an early age that no one could be trusted.
Yet, as time passed, Adriana began to allow herself to trust and heal.
She learned who Jesus is and the hope we have in knowing Him. She came to realize that having a relationship with Jesus is what helps us keep going, not because it’s easy, but because faith reminds us there is so much we can’t see that God can.
Even just a glimmer of hope is a powerful thing.
As Adriana nears her 18th birthday,
she will be one of the first girls to move into The Well, the new transition program for young mothers. There, she will have the opportunity to continue counseling and job training and will be surrounded by mentors who can help guide her successfully into adulthood.
At Lifesong, we stand by a 4-part pledge to the children we serve. The fourth part of the pledge affirms our commitment to providing orphaned young adults with continued love and support as they transition into adult living.
Adriana completed her barista training with our team this past fall and has dreams of one day opening her own coffee shop. Her daughter, who just turned 4, is flourishing in preschool and loves all things pink. Adriana shares—
“I am grateful for the opportunity to end the cycle of abuse that my family has experienced. It stops with my daughter.”
*Names have been changed to protect the identities of the children we serve.
