Provision at Every Turn: Our Adoption Story

We had three biological children, but we knew

God had one more for our family, but not biologically.

So for years, my wife had felt the call to adopt a child from India. It just took a while for me to realize this and open my heart to it.

However, in 2018, we began what became a three-year process. It resulted in us bringing our daughter Selah into our family.

We never would have made it this far without God’s faithful provision, through the hands and feet of so many in our lives. In 2021, after being matched with our daughter and getting our bags packed and passports and visas ready, my wife and I—along with our two oldest children—flew to India to bring our daughter home.

Selah was 3.5 years old at the time. From the moment we held her at the orphanage to the day a couple weeks later when we brought her home in Virginia when she met her sister, we felt like family.

God’s love, faithfulness, and provision have never wavered. He is a good, good Father.

The stories of God’s provision

piled up one after the other in our adoption journey.

One of the most powerful illustrations was His provision of a notary for the countless documents that we had to have notarized.

I work for the Fire Department. And getting all of the documents we needed certified and notarized was proving to be a challenge at the beginning of our process. But then, our fire department just happened to hire a former bank teller. And she was assigned to my fire station to work with me. She was a notary public, and over the next year and a half, she notarized countless documents for us, including meeting me at the doctor’s office on a Christmas Eve to notarize a form at the last minute.

We knew from day one that if God was calling us to adopt,

He was going to have to provide a way financially for this.

And He did!

Lifesong was instrumental in this process.

We had many people in our lives who wanted to join us in our adoption and contribute financially, and Lifesong provided a generous matching grant to aid in this journey. It was so special to be supported by people we know and love as well as others who didn’t know us personally, but were committed to the beauty of adoption and supported us in this matching grant.

The matching grant helped provide the funds needed to complete our adoption to bring our daughter home.
