What We Need, When We Need It: An Adoption Miracle
In Corrie ten Boom’s famous memoir The Hiding Place, we see a beautiful dialogue between a young Corrie and her father. Anxious about her future, she asks him for advice—
Father sat down on the edge of the narrow bed. “Corrie,” he began gently, “when you and I go to Amsterdam—when do I give you your ticket?”
I sniffed a few times, considering this.
“Why, just before we get on the train.”
“Exactly. And our wise Father in heaven knows when we’re going to need things, too. Don’t run out ahead of Him, Corrie…”
We all crave security. Uncertainty and unpredictability can set us in a tailspin.
But we don’t have to live in fear of what the future holds or how we’ll face the challenges ahead. Adoptive families, specifically, don’t have to live in fear of the account balances that stand against them or the steep fundraising challenges that lie ahead.
Our Heavenly Father will give us what we need, right when we need it.

We were so very blessed to be able to see God’s provision throughout our entire adoption process.
There were so many little God-moments sprinkled throughout, but Lifesong’s part in our story is one of my favorites.
We had not yet been matched nor did we know how much our future adoption would cost. However, I knew we did not have enough funds currently in our savings or projected through our other fundraising avenues to cover the potential cost.
Lifesong was the first adoption grant and loan that we applied for.
The entire adoption financial aid process seemed so complicated at the time.
From Counting Funds to Counting Down Hours
The adoption of our little girl was pretty unconventional. We received an email on a Tuesday, stating that there was a baby who had been born two weeks ago. They wanted to have adoptive parents chosen by the end of the week.
I knew we would not have enough funds on our own to cover the cost. Because we weren’t matched with a birth mother yet, we didn’t know the exact amount our adoption would cost, so we couldn’t yet apply for grants.
But just a few days after that initial email, we found out we were chosen! We were elated knowing we’d only have to wait a few days to meet our little girl!
And yet, there was a downside. We were expected to pay all funds in full upon her release from the hospital, and we only had a few short days to prepare.
God’s Perfect Timing
Lifesong just happened to call us the day before we were to meet with the adoption lawyers to fill out all of the paperwork and finalize the adoption. They called and said that we were approved for a loan and we could access the funds at any time.
The amount loaned from Lifesong—an arbitrary amount I requested—combined with the funds we had raised and set aside in our savings added up to the exact amount needed for our adoption.
God knew our need! His timing was oh so perfect. It’s something that could only be orchestrated by Him.
I still vividly remember getting the call that we had been approved for our Lifesong loan. I was able to talk to a real person who was already invested in my family and our story and wanted to help us. It was such a huge weight off of our shoulders to get that approval, knowing we were one step closer to becoming financially prepared to support our adoption.
A combination of things really made Lifesong stand out.
Our Family Account Manager was so kind and invested in us and our process from day one. She really helped make the entire loan process and really the whole adoption financial process much less scary and intimidating.
Also, the Lifesong application was very detailed, and it was nice to fill it out first and use it as a guide when applying to other loans and grants.
