COVID-19 Update from Lifesong

We know you’re getting a constant stream of updates regarding COVID-19. Our team is working hard to communicate well with our ministry partners around the world and to relay those messages to people like you who are deeply invested in the ongoing work on behalf of orphaned and vulnerable children.

It goes without saying that this pandemic is uncharted territory. It’s in our nature to seek out security and predictability—two things the world severely lacks in the chaos of COVID-19. But the uncertainty does remind us of an important truth: Our lives are largely out of our control.

Thankfully, we know Who is in control, and we have complete confidence in Him. We’re praying to Him on behalf of the kids, staff, and families we serve. And we’re praying for you.

God’s Word grounds us as we respond to the effects of COVID-19. Here in our U.S. office, our team read Proverbs 3:25-27 together—

“Do not be afraid of sudden terror… for the LORD will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught. Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due when it is in your power to do it.”

We want you to be aware of how we’re responding to the COVID-19 pandemic as it escalates worldwide.

First, for our adoptive families, our U.S. office will remain open and will operate as usual following protocols from the CDC. We know that adoption is filled with countless unknowns, even without COVID-19. By God’s grace, we’ll continue to meet needs.

Second, for the children in our care, Lifesong ministry sites around the world are implementing policies for hygiene, visitors, sickness, and communication. In keeping with our mission, we remain focused on ensuring the safety and well-being of the children in our care and pointing them to Jesus.

Third, to ensure all of this is possible, we’re relying on you.

The Challenge in Front of Us

According to WHO, 11 of the 13 countries we serve have reported COVID-19 cases. Here in the U.S., its impact is undeniable, but the toll it’s taking internationally is less obvious. Here’s a glimpse of how it’s affecting Lifesong ministry partners around the world.

In each country we serve, our students rely on the two meals they receive during the school day. But with schools closed indefinitely in nine of our ministry locations, we are looking for ways to continue providing food to the kids we serve.

In Zambia, due to college closings, our graduates are returning to the Lifesong campus, filling the student residences to capacity.

In Bolivia and Guatemala, many of the children we care for have weak immune systems. The spread of the virus has created further concern over these already vulnerable kids.

We see similar effects at each Lifesong ministry site around the world. But together, we can bring immediate care and lasting hope amid concern of COVID-19. Would you join us to ease uncertainty and bring critical support to vulnerable, often forgotten children? Your response today allows us to continue caring for our kids without skipping a beat.

While tension is high and there are many unknowns, we rest in God’s sovereignty and promises to His children. God is not nervously wringing His hands over this, and we choose not to be anxious either.

Thank you for praying, for giving, and for trusting.
