Who Loves? A Book (Series) Review + Giveaway!
Children in foster care typically have many people moving in and out of their lives. This revolving door can lead children to believe that nobody loves them.
… And if we’re honest, it’s hard to blame them. Introducing the Who Loves? series.
The Forgotten Initiative, a foster care ministry of Lifesong, is committed to showing Jesus to the one who feels forgotten. Having worked alongside thousands of foster children, foster care advocates, churches, and families–they sensed a gap in communication and chose to fill it with a delightful set of books for children. But behind the books’ simplicity is a critical and strategic message.
Foster-turned-adoptive mom Jami Kaeb recently created a series of picture books designed specifically to give children a hope-saturated perspective on the people they interact with while they are in foster care. Each of the 3 books in the series has this message: You are worthy. You are loved. And we are all here to help you.
Bottom line: Good books on the subject of foster care are hard to find, and even the most discerning foster care advocate, parent, or social worker will find these books to be a God-send.
The Complete Series
1. Who Loves Baby? is the first book in the series, designed specifically for children 0-3 years old. In simple, bite-sized truths, it promotes a message of love from those in the child’s life.
2. Who Loves Me? is the second book in the series, designed for children 3-7 years old at multiple reading levels. In a creative twist, the story is laid out as a conversation. The child can read the left side of the page and the adult can read the right.
3. I Am Loved is the final book in the series, designed for children 7-10 years old. Told from the perspective of a young boy in foster care, the story carefully covers many of the confusing feelings and questions a child might have in foster care.
We Love This Series and You Will, Too!
The Who Loves? series does an exceptional job addressing a complicated topic. The characters are relatable, the questions are authentic, and the answers are spot-on. The creators have done a commendable job placing a script in the hands of every parent or advocate who wants to properly, lovingly guide a child through the complexities of foster care.
