Why We Serve in Liberia

Liberia is the 4th poorest country in the world with 85% of its population surviving on less than $2 a day. So the needs of the country—and of ministry—are great. These include education, medical care, agriculture, disability, therapy, jobs and job training, and ministering to orphans and street children.

What We Strive to Provide to Every Child We Serve

Our belief in God and His grace in our lives energizes us for a specific work. With God’s help, every child we serve will be taught the gospel and how to be followers of Christ, not want for food, shelter, medical care, and clothing, receive a quality education to provide a foundation for their future, and have access to continued love and support while transitioning into adult living.

Key Areas of Ministry in Liberia

Discipleship

All of our children attend church on a regular basis, and many of the older children are directly involved in church activities, including singing in choir, playing musical instruments, teaching younger children, and being on the dance team. At our homes we have daily devotions, sometimes led by the older children. Additionally, caregivers, staff, and volunteers mentor the kids, encouraging them in their faith and helping them overcome challenge as they grow.

Education

Both of our homes have schools on campus which serve the resident children and children from surrounding communities. Our schools follow the national school curriculum but have a Christian focus. These schools provide education from infancy through 6th grade. Students who are in grades 7 thorugh 12 attend various junior high and high schools in nearby communities. Both of our homes have libraries where students can study, do research, and read for fun.

Safe Homes

Around 40 children live in a group setting at two different homes in Liberia. They range in age from 5 to 20 years old. Lifesong Liberia provides food, clothing, education, and medical care for the children who live here. Each site has resident caregivers who are responsible for the care and wellbeing of the children.

Sustainable Business

Lifesong Water is a water packaging business that helps to sustain Lifesong Liberia. Filtered water is packaged into small, handheld bags that are then packed into larger bags holding 200 smaller bags. The large bags are sold to various churches, businesses, and other entities. Safe drinking water is still a challenge in Liberia, and these bags are essential, especially in the dry season.

Vocational Training

The teenagers we serve have the opportunity to participate in vocational classes two to three times a week after school hours. Classes cover a variety of topics and provide hands-on experiences and training in computers, agriculture, carpentry, cosmetology, hair styling, baking, catering, electricity, interior design, and music. The vocational program is held five days per week in the summer months.

Because Your Money Should Go Where You Want It To Go

Lifesong administrative costs are already covered, so every penny of your received donation will go to help children in need.
