How This Labor Day Could Benefit Your Adoption

This Monday is Labor Day. And since no details are wasted on the adoption journey, we can safely assume even this holiday could benefit your adoption. Here are a few ways that could happen–
.

1. Bond as a family.

Perhaps this is obvious, but if you have the privilege of being home from work and/or school this Monday, use the day to get closer as a family. Play a game or go for a walk. Do the things that foster conversation (even if the conversation has nothing to do with adoption). Getting closer as a family–before, during, and after an adoption is completed–is always a good and healthy decision that benefits everyone involved.

Take advantage of the day.

2. Pursue conversation with guests.

If you spend Labor Day with friends or extended family, look for opportunities to talk about what God is doing in your home. If there is anything you need by way of emotional or spiritual support, mention it to those with whom you are closest. And if a guest wants to ask questions about adoption, be open to answering them. Since many (if not most!) adoption stories draw a straight line of impact or influence to someone else’s adoption story, consider being willing to answer questions and discuss adoption with someone else whom the Lord might call to adopt at some point.

You never know what God is doing in somebody’s else’s heart and story.

3. Take time to rest.

As you know, parenting requires an enormous amount of energy. Likewise, adopting a child (or children) can put additional strain and pressure on the heart and mind. Long weekends can provide short but necessary opportunities to rest. Take extra time to read the Word or pray. Reflect on what God has done as a way of encouraging yourself that He will continue to care about the deepest needs of your family.

Be encouraged.
.

And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work (2 Corinthians 9:8).

Labor Day is coming … and with it, opportunities to benefit your adoption. Have a great holiday weekend!
