Peter’s Path to Becoming a Mechanic
Peter was alone and abandoned when he met our team in Zambia.
His parents died and his extended family left him, so our team provided safe housing and holistic, Gospel-centered care. When Peter started going to school, our team nurtured his unique skills and interests, eventually leading him to spend two years receiving vocational training in Auto Mechanics at Lifesong Trade Academy.
At Lifesong, we stand by a 4-part pledge to the children we serve. The fourth part of the pledge affirms our commitment to providing orphaned young adults with continued love and support as they transition into adult living.
Without vocational training, the challenges Peter faced may have been even greater.
Professional training is often inaccessible to vulnerable populations in Zambia, leaving 50% of adults unemployed. And orphaned young adults are among the most vulnerable, lacking support as they enter adulthood. Many are at risk of perpetuating generational cycles of poverty, teen pregnancy, unemployment, and exploitation.
Thankfully, this is not Peter’s story.
Because of the skills he learned at Lifesong Trade Academy, Peter is now employed as an auto mechanic, enabling him to provide for his basic needs. He is moving into his own apartment, is engaged to be married, and has an abundance of hope.
A ministry leader in Zambia shares—
“Vocational training programs provide career pathways that offer not just skills but also emotional and spiritual healing.”
Hundreds of other orphaned and vulnerable children in Zambia long for a life like Peter’s.
That’s why we’re expanding Lifesong Trade Academy and partnering with Northrise University to provide graduates like Peter opportunities to pursue a vocation or university degree. Our team will offer tuition-free training in Auto Mechanics, Electrical, Food Production, Masonry, Fashion & Design, and Information & Communication Technologies.
As more orphaned and vulnerable young adults are equipped with the skills they need to have a successful career, their lives are being transformed like Peter’s, and they realize God cares about them and their hopes and dreams for the future.
